FILMMAKERS LEGAL & BUSINESS WORKSHOP:
CROWD FUNDING FOR INDEPENDENT FILMMAKERS

Ken Edwards Center
1527 Fourth St., Santa Monica, CA, 90404
June 9, 2012 10-11:30AM

Crowd funding is using the Internet to enable filmmakers to raise money from the public to finance a film through donations. The public can donate as little as a few dollars to as much as a few thousand dollars. Filmmakers build an effective crowd funding campaign to reach out to a crowd of people for donations. Filmmakers use platforms like Kickstarter.com or Indiegogo.com to solicit donations from the public in exchange for rewards (i.e. memorabilia, DVDs, dinners, etc.). In this workshop we will look at various websites that specialize in crowd funding, the importance of structuring a well thought out campaign and the impact of new laws on crowd funding. Finally, we will focus on key factors to build and maintain a crowd funding audience.
